“We are the multi-hued face of God
Created in the Image of God.”
Reflections of Love and Forgiveness
By Amy Bryant
As I look in the mirror, the bronze copper image reflected carries the genes of the Oppressor and the Oppressed.
To fully love myself as a Black woman, I must love not only the African who gave me my rich deep hue, not only the Native American who contributed the warmth of copper, but the Caucasian who added a touch of golden bronze.
I carry within me the genes of the Oppressed and the Oppressor.
To fully love myself, I must love the oppressor as well.
Only by opening my heart and reaching into my genealogy to forgive the oppressor, can I be free to fully love myself, and all those who reflect the multiple hues of my race.
Only by opening up my heart to forgiveness can I extend my love to All Humanity…the multi-hued face of God…created in the image of God.
I carry within me the genes of the Oppressed and the Oppressor.
Each day I honor my African ancestors for my connection with the Elders, the Souls who have passed on, and God the Creator.
Each day I honor my Native American ancestors for my connection with the Elders, Nature’s living creatures, and Mother Earth.
Each day I honor my European ancestors for bringing Democracy to the land: and I forgive them for having denied it to my people for so long.
In trying to break my spirit, they brought me closer to God. In taking a stick to my back, I became “strong in the broken places.”
I carry within me the genes of the Oppressor and the Oppressed.
I open my heart with Forgiveness and Love.

By Amy Bryant
I’ve been described
as the voice of Maya Angelo
in Safety Harbor.
Oh so flattering …but so inaccurate,
for my body of work is but a cupful
in the vast ocean of Mother Maya’s words.
But yes,
I am the voice…
I am the voice of diversity within unity.
You pretend not to see our differences,
for you are good hearted.
But I say see, our differences …
Celebrate and rejoice
in the glorious variety of God’s creation..
I am the voice of the multi-hued face of God
Created in the Image of God.
I am the voice of inclusion
Young, old, yellow, brown, white,
gay, lesbian, straight,
Muslim, Jew, Christian.
For me there are no outcasts..
All are dear to my heart.
I am the voice of the beloved and the forsaken
Created in the Image of God..
I am the voice of reason
Like conservatives, I honor and take pride
in the values that shaped our nation.
Except when they exclude or destroy.
Like liberals, I honor change
that enhances the present and repairs the past.
Except when brash and arrogant.
I am the voice of balance and harmony,
Created in the Image of God.
I am the voice of enlightened progress
drawing from the wisdom of our elders
joined with the wisdom of our youth .
Together, they create a future
worth passing on to our children. . .
I am the voice of our future
Created in the image of God.
I am the voice of praise,
rejoicing in the community of Safety Harbor.
Embracing its diversity … its inclusiveness ….
its balance and harmony.
Its wisdom, enlightenment and creativity.
I am but one of Safety Harbors many voices
Created in the image of God.
